Esther Nyamekye Opoku is a young and dynamic educationist, environmentalist, and climate action activist making waves in Ghana and beyond. With a passion for Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) and Nature-based Solutions (NbS), Esther is dedicated to raising awareness about climate change and driving collective action to address the global crisis.

A Trained Climate Change Negotiator

Esther’s expertise in climate change negotiations is commendable. As a trained Climate Change Negotiator for Ghana and the African Group of Negotiators (AGN), she plays a pivotal role in youth participation, negotiating on crucial topics such as the Global Stock Take (GST), Transparency, and Mitigation (MWP). Her advocacy for effective climate change policies and action has earned her recognition as a rising star in the climate action space.

Empowering Youth and Women

Esther’s dedication to youth and women engagement and empowerment in climate action is evident through her involvement with various organizations. She serves as the National Focal Point for Ghana for the United International Federation of Youth (UN1FY) for Water and Climate and co-founded the African Females Negotiators Program (AFNP) to empower young women across Africa to grasp understanding of the UNFCCC processes and diplomacy.

Leading Community-Based Projects

As Co-founder and Program and Policy Director at the Center for Opportunities and Rural Development (CORD Ghana), Esther leads initiatives that address environmental, food systems, and social challenges. Her projects include the Green School initiative, Savannah Rural Women Voices Assembly, Sustainable Energy Waste to Resource Initiative, and Learn Educate and Act Now (LEAN) toolkit.
