Accra, Ghana – The Energy Commission of Ghana, in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Authority, has taken a significant step towards promoting sustainable cooling solutions in the country.
The commission hosted the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to discuss Ghana’s participation in the US$40 million Energy Efficiency Revolving Fund (EERF).
The meeting, led by Acting Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission, Ing. Eunice Biritwum, focused on stakeholder engagement, financial models, and strategies to maximize impact and ensure measurable energy savings.

Ghana is committed to energy-efficient, low-Global Warming Potential (GWP) cooling solutions in hotels, supermarkets, and cold-chain logistics.
Key highlights of the discussions included refrigerant transition projects, capacity building for technicians, and promoting local assembly of energy-efficient refrigerators.
The partnership between the Energy Commission and the Environmental Protection Authority is central to implementing the fund, ensuring compliance with the Kigali Amendment, and driving sustainable cooling solutions across Ghana.
The EERF provides low-interest loans for energy-efficient, climate-friendly cooling technologies, with repayments recycled to support future projects. This initiative is expected to reduce energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and promote sustainable development in Ghana.

The Energy Commission and the Environmental Protection Authority are working together to ensure the successful implementation of the EERF, which will contribute to Ghana’s efforts to address climate change and promote sustainable energy solutions.
