Accra, Ghana — Ghanaian journalist and climate communications advocate Ishmael Barfi, the Executive Coordinator of Climate Watch Africa, has been selected as a Fellow of the Ghana-China Media Fellowship (GCMF) 2026, a prestigious programme designed to enhance media engagement and strengthen understanding of Ghana-China relations.

The selection was announced by the Africa-China Centre for Policy and Advisory (ACCPA), which confirmed Mr. Barfi’s inclusion among journalists selected for the second cohort of the fellowship programme.

In a congratulatory message to successful applicants, ACCPA described the selection as a recognition of the fellows’ professional contributions and commitment to advancing meaningful media dialogue.

“On behalf of the Africa-China Centre for Policy & Advisory (ACCPA), we are pleased to inform you that you have been selected as a Fellow of the Ghana-China Media Fellowship (GCMF) 2026. Congratulations on this well-deserved achievement,” the organisation stated.

Mr. Barfi, who combines journalism with climate advocacy, has built a career focused on development reporting, environmental communication and amplifying African perspectives on global issues. As Executive Coordinator of Climate Watch Africa, he has contributed to conversations around climate change, sustainability, climate finance and Africa’s role in shaping global climate solutions.

The Ghana-China Media Fellowship seeks to equip journalists and media professionals with deeper insights into Ghana-China relations, including trade, investment, development cooperation, technology, diplomacy and emerging global trends.

The programme also aims to strengthen the capacity of media practitioners to produce informed and balanced reporting on issues affecting Africa-China relations.

The fellowship will bring together selected journalists from across Ghana, providing opportunities for professional development, knowledge exchange, networking and engagement with key stakeholders.

Organisers say the initiative is expected to promote stronger collaboration between journalists, policymakers, researchers and development actors while contributing to improved public understanding of Ghana-China cooperation.

The Africa-China Centre for Policy and Advisory noted that the fellowship continues to serve as an important platform for building media capacity and encouraging constructive dialogue between Africa and China.

Mr. Barfi’s selection adds to his growing recognition as a journalist and climate advocate.
