The Chief Representative of the Ghana Representative Office of the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute (KEITI) Hong Seok Kim recently paid a courtesy visit to the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) to discuss potential collaboration opportunities in promoting circular economy approaches in Ghana’s waste management sector.
The meeting emphasized the importance of partnerships between environmental institutions and research organizations in developing sustainable solutions for waste management and environmental protection in Ghana. By combining technical expertise with research and innovation, KEITI and WASCAL aim to strengthen and support the transition to a circular economy in Ghana’s waste management sector.
During the meeting, the representatives discussed ways to leverage KEITI’s technical expertise and WASCAL’s research capabilities to address Ghana’s waste management challenges.

The collaboration is expected to focus on developing sustainable waste management practices, promoting waste reduction and recycling, and enhancing environmental protection.
Ghana currently faces significant waste management challenges, with over 1.1 million tonnes of plastic consumed annually, and only 19% of plastic waste recovered. The collaboration between KEITI and WASCAL is seen as a crucial step towards addressing these challenges and promoting sustainable development.
The Chief Representative of KEITI Ghana expressed optimism about the potential collaboration, stating that it would leverage KEITI’s global experience in environmental management and WASCAL’s regional expertise to drive impactful initiatives in Ghana.
