GirlFarmsHub Unveils Women-Led Miracle Berry Initiative to Boost Climate-Resilient Agriculture in Northern Ghana

Tamale, Ghana-Tamale-based agribusiness startup GirlFarmsHub has unveiled a women-led regenerative agriculture initiative that seeks to transform the underutilised miracle berry into a climate-smart value chain capable of strengthening food security, creating jobs and empowering women across Northern Ghana.

The initiative was presented in response to the International Women’s Day (IWD) 2026 Call for Proposals, showcasing an innovative approach to climate resilience through sustainable agriculture and women’s economic empowerment.

Founded in 2024, GirlFarmsHub is promoting the cultivation and processing of indigenous crops into nutritious, value-added products to reduce post-harvest losses, improve livelihoods for smallholder farmers and encourage climate-smart farming practices.

Under the proposed project, young women farmers in the Nanton District will be supported to integrate miracle berry cultivation into their existing farming systems using climate-smart agroforestry techniques that enhance biodiversity and improve land productivity.

The initiative also includes plans to establish a Miracle Berry Processing and Training Centre in the Sagnarigu District, where women will receive practical training in processing, value addition and entrepreneurship to enable them to access both domestic and international markets.

GirlFarmsHub said developing a women-led value chain around the indigenous crop would help conserve biodiversity while creating sustainable income opportunities and supporting the growth of women-owned agribusinesses in Northern Ghana.

The organisation believes that investing in indigenous crops and local value addition can strengthen climate resilience, diversify rural livelihoods and contribute to more sustainable food systems.

The Africa Climate Collaborative at the University of Ghana, together with the **Mastercard Foundation, commended GirlFarmsHub for its innovative contribution to climate resilience and women’s economic empowerment, describing the initiative as an example of how women-led enterprises can drive sustainable agricultural transformation.

The project aligns with broader efforts to promote regenerative agriculture, support indigenous food systems and expand economic opportunities for women and young farmers in Ghana’s climate-vulnerable northern region.
