Accra, Ghana – With just four years remaining to meet its 2030 net-zero emissions target, Ghana will use the 2026 Climate Forward Summit to evaluate its climate commitments, identify implementation gaps and develop strategies to accelerate action.
Speaking ahead of the summit, Leonard Kofi Agyei, Senior Events and Campaign Associate at IMPLEMENTERS, said the event would bring together policymakers, industry leaders, academics and civil society organisations to review the country’s climate mitigation efforts and strengthen coordination across sectors.
He said the summit was created after stakeholder consultations revealed that climate initiatives in Ghana were often implemented in isolation, limiting opportunities for collaboration and collective impact.

According to Mr. Agyei, one of the summit’s key objectives is to determine whether Ghana is on track to achieve its commitments under the Paris Agreement.
“With only four years remaining before the 2030 deadline, this summit offers an opportunity to assess where we are, identify implementation gaps and determine what more needs to be done,” he said.
The summit will also examine how activities in sectors such as agriculture, extractive industries and waste management influence one another, with the aim of promoting integrated climate policies.

Discussions this year will focus on the circular economy, particularly waste management and resource efficiency, following recent flooding that highlighted the environmental and economic costs of poor waste disposal practices.
Mr. Agyei said the event would culminate in a policy white paper containing recommendations to strengthen climate governance, improve cross-sector collaboration and support Ghana’s transition to a low-carbon economy.
